What it measures
The headline Wholesale Price Index — tracks price changes at the wholesale/producer level across primary articles, fuel & power, and manufactured products, distinct from CPI's retail/consumer-level basket. DPIIT officially revised the series base year from 2011-12 to 2022-23 on 15 June 2026; see wpiMcp.js for a note on this feed's current base year.
How it is calculated
Compiled from wholesale transaction prices across ~1000+ commodities aggregated into Major Groups (Primary Articles, Fuel & Power, Manufactured Products) weighted by their share of wholesale trade value in the base year.

Revisions: Provisional index released monthly (~14th of the following month), finalized ~2 months later as more complete price data is compiled.
