What it measures
The number of Indian rupees required to buy one US dollar — India's most-watched bilateral exchange rate, set in the interbank foreign-exchange market.
How it is calculated
RBI's Reference Rate is computed daily around 12:30 pm from polled rates of a set of contributing banks across the onshore market, using a volume-weighted average methodology; the market rate otherwise floats based on FEMA-regulated interbank trading.

Daily, published on every RBI working day
Revisions: Reference Rate published once each working day; RBI intervenes in the spot/forward market as needed but does not "revise" a published day's rate.
